Biography

Stijn’s research focuses on sustainability indicators for waste management. He aims to find the criteria and conditions for environmental sustainability regarding solid waste, recycling and the circular economy.  The study is part of a collaborative attempt within the Institute to create a leading indicator for environmental sustainability.

Before joining UCL, Stijn completed a BSc in Mechanical Engineering, an MSc in Sustainable Energy Technology and an MSc in Public Administration at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. His combined master thesis was about technological innovation and liberalization in the European electricity market.

During his studies, Stijn spent half a year at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico. Also, he conducted research on energy innovation as an intern at the Dutch Embassy in Switzerland. In 2012, Stijn was in the Young Future Energy Leader program at the Masdar Institute of Technology in Abu Dhabi.
