Biography

Helen joined the Department of the History and Philosophy of Science in September 2012 as lecturer in the history of modern science and technology. She is currently working on a book, Evolution to Order: Genetic Technologies and American Agriculture, 1925–1960. The book traces the history of several early technologies of genetic modification, including their development as research tools in genetics and evolutionary biology, their application as novel methods of plant breeding, and their celebration in American popular culture as means of engineering life.
