Biography

Dr Julian Huppert is the former Member of Parliament for Cambridge, and now a University Lecturer at Cambridge. As an MP, he focused on a wide range of issues, from civil liberties to science, and was made the ISPA ‘Internet Hero of the Year’ in 2013. Prior to his election to Parliament, he was a researcher in bioinformatics and genomics, and Deputy Director of the Centre for Scientific Computing at the University of Cambridge. He also set up a small award-winning biotech company, as well as serving as a County Councillor and Chair of the Cambridge Traffic Management Committee.

He is now researching various aspects of science and technology policy, and how evidence can be used to develop rational public policy positions. He is also a Lay Member of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group, a member of the Royal Society’s Science Policy Advisory Group, and a Trustee of DrugScience.
