Shafiq works on the Energy@Cambridge Strategic Research Initiative, which links the research activities of around 300 academics at Cambridge University working in energy research. The initiative is developing teams of researchers across the University to tackle grand challenges in areas including energy policy, sustainable energy and energy efficiency.
He has a PhD in Materials Science from Oxford and was previously Postgraduate Scholarships Manager for Universities UK (UUK) and prior to that managed international collaborative research programmes for the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE).
