Cambridge Forum for Sustainability and the Environment

London roads at night - banner

Today, more people live in cities than in rural areas and, by 2050, this ratio is predicted to rise to 7 out of every 10 people.

Can we rethink how we design and live in cities? How will cities adapt to the challenges facing them in the future? What new research and new connections would help us to prepare for these challenges?

Between October 2013 and June 2014, the Forum brought together a rich mixture of policy- and decision-makers from governments and business, technical experts and researchers to talk about these questions and to make connections between different facets of sustainability and the environment in future cities and the governance needed to support them.

These ideas have been distilled into an output and a panel of experts from the Forum will use this as starting point to talk about future research agendas related to where we live in cities, how we live and how we respond to change. The panel includes:

  • Professor Doug Crawford-Brown, Director of the Cambridge Centre for Climate Change Mitigation Research
  • Professor Koen Steemers, Professor of Sustainable Design in the Department of Architecture
  • Professor Peter Guthrie, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development in the Department of Engineering

The event will be in the The McGrath Centre in St Catharine's College in the centre of Cambridge.

  • Coffee will be available outside the lecture theatre from 5pm
  • The panel discussion will start at 5.30pm
  • There will be a wine reception afterwards at 7pm

The evening is being jointly hosted by the Cambridge Forum for Sustainability and the Environment and the Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) Policy Challenges Programme.
