Biography

Ruth Canagarajah is an MPhil student in Public Policy. Areas of research that she finds particularly fascinating are issues in developing countries, including informal work and slums, urban development, land policies, and private sector investment. In Ghana, she analyzed economic and social repercussions of forced resettlements after hydroelectric dam constructions, which brought issues of remuneration and restoration of livelihoods to the fore. After graduation, she spent ten months on a Fulbright grant in Sri Lanka. She explored the coping strategies of Jaffna fishworkers as they continue to deal with decreasing resources, Indian trawling and other byproducts of the war
